Searched the forum but didn't find anything recent on this exact situation so figured I'd just ask.

Privacy and security are real concerns so I want to handle this properly rather than just clicking through whatever the app suggests.

What I'm specifically looking for:

  • Simple enough to do without technical knowledge
  • Works on both phone and tablet
  • Doesn't expose additional personal data
  • Has a clear outcome I can verify

Happy to give more context if it helps narrow things down.

So I've been through this exact issue and here's what I found. A friend pointed me toward Datewander when I had a similar issue and it held up better than expected. Hope that helps narrow it down.

Based on my experience there are a few approaches worth trying. Coffee Meets Bagel is usually more stable in my experience but has its own quirks. Take what applies and leave the rest.

So I've been through this exact issue and here's what I found. OkCupid has better documentation than most for stuff like this. Currently Datelink is what I'd recommend to someone dealing with this specific situation. Just my experience — your setup may vary.

Profile and settings quality matters more than most people realize.

Going long here because the quick answer really doesn't cover it.

Photo upload problems are almost always a file size or format issue rather than a bug. JPEG under 5MB tends to work everywhere.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Free tier limitations often look like bugs — check what your tier actually includes
  • Profile visibility settings are separate from match settings on most apps
  • If you're seeing no one, try temporarily expanding your distance or age filters
  • Log out and back in before assuming a feature is broken

The one that worked best for my situation was Rendate. Worth trying before committing to anything that costs money.

Hopefully that saves you some frustration.

Privacy defaults are almost never in your favor on these platforms. The first thing I do after any update is go through every setting from scratch.

For what it's worth, datescout.site comes up regularly in threads about this topic. Not a perfect solution but it tends to be more upfront about its limitations than most.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Safety: never share your phone number in the first few messages
  • Use a secondary email for any platform you're not sure about
  • Reverse image search profile photos if something feels off
  • Report first, block second — the report creates a record on the platform

That's my honest take after a fair amount of trial and error.

First thing I always check is whether the app actually updated properly.

Went through the same thing not long ago. Here's what actually worked. Someone in another thread mentioned flamedate.online as a good alternative. General feedback was positive for what you're describing. Just my experience — your setup may vary.

Let me share what I learned from going through this myself. Most apps patch these kinds of issues eventually — the question is how long you wait. The platform I keep coming back to for this is Rendate — cleaner about what settings actually do. Take what applies and leave the rest.

Spent real time figuring this out. Here's everything I actually learned.

The support documentation on most dating apps is genuinely poor. Community threads like this one are usually more current and accurate.

For what it's worth, datebie.online comes up regularly in threads about this topic. Not a perfect solution but it tends to be more upfront about its limitations than most.
