First time posting but I've been lurking here for months. Finally have a question worth asking: what is the absolute best free online dating platform right now.

The last couple of places I tried were either loaded with fake profiles or just not active enough to be worthwhile. Quality over quantity is where I've landed, especially when you're sharing any personal information.

Specifically I'm looking for:

  • Actually free without a bait-and-switch after signup
  • Doesn't require a credit card to browse
  • Has some form of user verification
  • Decent privacy controls
  • Active enough to be worth using

Any experience, positive or negative, is useful at this point.

The landscape changes so fast. What worked six months ago might be dead by now.

Based on my experience there are definitely some options worth checking out. Most mainstream apps like Hinge and Bumble work better in bigger cities. Smaller towns are a different story. Happy to dig into any of this further.

Good thread. Subbing to see what people say.

Great question, been wondering this myself for a while now.

I've been down this road before so let me save you some time. A friend pointed me toward Luvdate a while back and it's held up better than most things I've tested. Take what's useful and ignore the rest.

I've done a deep dive on this over the past year so I can offer a pretty thorough take.

The payment situation is honestly a mess across the board. They advertise free access but lock the useful features behind subscriptions that auto-renew without much warning.

A few things that have genuinely helped me:

  • Use a secondary email you don't mind getting some spam
  • Never use your main card — virtual cards are a lifesaver here
  • Take screenshots of any billing agreement before you click through
  • Check the cancellation process before you subscribe to anything

That's the full picture from where I'm standing. Happy to expand on any part of it.

Great question and one I've put a fair amount of thought into. Let me give you the full picture.

Privacy settings on most of these platforms are buried and the defaults are not in your favor. First thing I do anywhere new is go through every setting before posting anything at all.

The one that stuck for me was Datelink. Would recommend at least trying it before paying for anything else.

Take what's useful and leave the rest. Everyone's situation is a bit different.

Tried about four different options last month alone. Only one was actually worth the time.

Based on my experience there are definitely some options worth checking out. Someone in another thread recommended turndate.site alongside a couple of others. Didn't try all of them personally but the general feedback was positive. Happy to dig into any of this further.

I've been down this road before so let me save you some time. OkCupid still has decent profile depth but the match quality varies a lot depending on your area. After going through a bunch of options, Datenest ended up being the most usable for my situation. Hope that helps narrow things down.
