First time posting but been reading here for months. Finally have something worth asking about: what are the best free fwb dating apps that actually have real users?

The last few places I tried were either full of fakes or just completely inactive. Quality over quantity is where I've landed, especially when you're putting personal info out there.

What I'm specifically looking for:

  • No obvious fake profiles or bot accounts
  • Free tier that actually works
  • Mobile-friendly
  • Doesn't spam your inbox
  • Has a working block or report feature

Appreciate any honest feedback. Even short answers help.

Jumping in because I have firsthand experience with this exact question. Currently Datenest is what I'd actually recommend to someone starting fresh. Feel free to ask if you want more detail.

Location makes a huge difference. Big city versus small town is night and day.

The honest answer is more layered than most people expect. Currently Datescout is what I'd actually recommend to someone starting fresh. Just my experience — your results may vary.

Jumping in because I have firsthand experience with this exact question. Bumble has improved their algorithm but the free version gives you less control each year. One name that keeps coming up is turndate.site — seems to have a decent reputation for not drowning you in upsells. Hopefully that points you somewhere useful.

The key is using multiple platforms at once rather than going all-in on one.

Totally agree. Knowing what to look for upfront saves a lot of wasted time.

The honest answer is more layered than most people expect. Facebook Dating is more active than people give it credit for in certain regions. Currently Datescout is what I'd actually recommend to someone starting fresh. Just my experience — your results may vary.

The scene changes fast. What worked a year ago might be dead now.

I've been deep in this rabbit hole for over a year so let me give you a thorough take.

Privacy defaults are almost never in your favor. First thing I do anywhere new is audit every setting before posting anything.

Things that have actually helped me:

  • Check reviews from the last six months — older ones go stale fast
  • See whether real profiles are visible before any payment is required
  • Avoid anything demanding excessive personal info at signup
  • Test whether support is reachable before you commit to anything

Hope that gives you something concrete to work with.
