Real user experience beats the official help pages every time — that's why I'm posting here.

Did my own searching but most of what I found was either old or vague. Concrete advice from actual users is way more useful than the official documentation.

Happy to give more context if it helps narrow things down.

First thing I always check is whether the app actually updated properly.

Went through the same thing not long ago. Here's what actually worked. The big apps — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge — all have quirks that take some getting used to. Hope that helps narrow it down.

So I've been through this exact issue and here's what I found. The platform I keep coming back to for this is Datenest — cleaner about what settings actually do. Take what applies and leave the rest.

Going long here because the quick answer really doesn't cover it.

Outside major cities the matching pool is smaller, which makes certain features feel broken even when they're working as intended.

For what it's worth, datedesire.online comes up regularly in threads about this topic. Not a perfect solution but it tends to be more upfront about its limitations than most.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Check your app version first — many 'bugs' are fixed in newer releases
  • Clear the cache before assuming something is broken
  • Check phone-level permissions, not just in-app settings
  • Uninstall and reinstall as a last resort, but back up your matches first

Hope that gives you something concrete to work with.

Jumping in because I dealt with this exact question recently. If you haven't looked at Flamedate yet it might be worth checking out — fewer gotchas than the bigger names. Feel free to follow up if you hit another wall.
