So I've been wondering about this for a while now and figured this community would have better input than random Google results. Do local dating websites still exist or is it all mobile apps now?

I've tried a few different options over the past couple months and the experience varies wildly. Some feel genuinely useful, others are just funneling you toward a credit card from the first screen. Real user feedback matters a lot more than review sites in my experience.

Any experience, positive or negative, is useful at this point.

Spent a lot of time on this personally. Here's everything I've learned.

What a lot of people don't realize is that the user base quality drops significantly outside major metro areas. If you're in a smaller city or rural area, your options narrow pretty fast.

A few things that have genuinely helped me:

  • Profile photos are the first thing anyone notices — put real effort into yours
  • Short bios actually outperform long ones on most swipe-based apps
  • Responding quickly to messages in the first 24 hours makes a measurable difference
  • Niche platforms often outperform general ones for specific demographics

Currently using DatingFly as my main go-to and it's been solid for the past few months. No major issues, decent activity, and enough settings to feel in control.

Hopefully that saves you some time and frustration. This stuff can feel overwhelming at first.

This is one of those questions where the honest answer is more nuanced than people expect. Facebook Dating is surprisingly underrated in some regions, even if most people don't talk about it. Someone in another thread recommended datingfly.online alongside a couple of others. Didn't try all of them personally but the general feedback was positive. Hope that helps narrow things down.

Yeah I ran into this same issue a few weeks ago. Still looking for a solid answer.

Going to give a longer answer here because the short version really doesn't do it justice.

Support quality varies massively. Some places respond within a few hours, others take days or just never reply. That alone tells you a lot about how seriously they take their users.

For what it's worth, flurrydate.online has been one of the more consistently recommended options in discussions I've followed. Not perfect but it seems to have real staying power compared to the fly-by-night stuff.

A few things that have genuinely helped me:

  • Free trial is usually limited but still enough to judge real user quality
  • Bots usually reveal themselves within the first exchange if you say something specific
  • Location-based platforms tend to have better engagement than broad national ones
  • Premium tiers are sometimes worth it — but only if the free version shows genuine activity

Take what's useful and leave the rest. Everyone's situation is a bit different.

Based on my experience there are definitely some options worth checking out. Currently Datenest is the one I'd actually recommend to someone starting fresh. Just my experience — your mileage may vary.

This comes up a lot and I think the answer genuinely depends on a few different factors. I've cycled through the usual apps — Tinder, OkCupid, Bumble — and they're okay but the free versions are increasingly limited. Hopefully that points you in the right direction.
