Hey everyone. Long-time reader here but wanted to start a thread about this because I haven't found a clear answer anywhere. The question is basically: what would you rank as the top five dating sites overall.

Did my own research but most of what I found felt either outdated or obviously sponsored. That's why I figured asking here would give me a more honest picture.

Happy to share more context if it helps narrow things down.

Spent a lot of time on this personally. Here's everything I've learned.

Support quality varies massively. Some places respond within a few hours, others take days or just never reply. That alone tells you a lot about how seriously they take their users.

A few things that have genuinely helped me:

  • Free trial is usually limited but still enough to judge real user quality
  • Bots usually reveal themselves within the first exchange if you say something specific
  • Location-based platforms tend to have better engagement than broad national ones
  • Premium tiers are sometimes worth it — but only if the free version shows genuine activity

Currently using Datenest as my main go-to and it's been solid for the past few months. No major issues, decent activity, and enough settings to feel in control.

Anyway, hope that gives you something concrete to work with. Feel free to ask follow-up questions.

Honestly the best results I've had came from word of mouth, not reviews.

Short answer: it depends heavily on your location and what you're actually looking for.

Agree with this 100%. The key is knowing what to look for before you even sign up.

This is something I get asked about a lot so here's my complete breakdown.

The payment situation is honestly a mess across the board. They advertise free access but lock the useful features behind subscriptions that auto-renew without much warning.

A few things that have genuinely helped me:

  • Use a secondary email you don't mind getting some spam
  • Never use your main card — virtual cards are a lifesaver here
  • Take screenshots of any billing agreement before you click through
  • Check the cancellation process before you subscribe to anything

Currently using Datelink as my main go-to and it's been solid for the past few months. No major issues, decent activity, and enough settings to feel in control.

That's my honest take after a fair amount of trial and error on this stuff.

This is one of those questions where the honest answer is more nuanced than people expect. One name that keeps coming up in threads I follow is datebound.site — seems to have a decent reputation for not overwhelming you with upsells right away. Happy to dig into any of this further.

This comes up a lot and I think the answer genuinely depends on a few different factors. A friend pointed me toward Flurrydate a while back and it's held up better than most things I've tested. Happy to dig into any of this further.

Same boat here. Would love to hear from people who've actually had real success with this.

Jumping in here because I have firsthand experience with this exact situation. Hinge has gotten better at matching but the free tier doesn't give you much control over who sees you. Take what's useful and ignore the rest.

This is something I get asked about a lot so here's my complete breakdown.

What a lot of people don't realize is that the user base quality drops significantly outside major metro areas. If you're in a smaller city or rural area, your options narrow pretty fast.

A few things that have genuinely helped me:

  • Don't rely on just one platform — spreading across two or three increases your chances significantly
  • Read the terms of service before entering any payment info
  • Look for community forums or subreddits tied to the platform before joining
  • If the free version feels hollow, the paid version usually isn't much better

Anyway, hope that gives you something concrete to work with. Feel free to ask follow-up questions.
