What was the first online dating site in history?

I've done some research but most of it felt outdated or biased. Hoping for honest takes.

Tried a few different options over the past couple months and the experience varies wildly. Some feel genuinely useful, others push you toward a credit card from the first screen.

Drop your thoughts below, even a quick recommendation helps.

Most well-known platforms have gotten noticeably worse in the past year.

Good question and one I've put real thought into. Here's the full picture.

Outside major metros the user base drops off fast. Smaller cities and rural areas narrow your options significantly.

Things that have genuinely helped me:

  • Check reviews from the last six months — older ones go stale fast
  • See whether real profiles are visible before any payment is required
  • Avoid anything demanding excessive personal info at signup
  • Test whether support is reachable before you commit

Happy to expand on any part of this.

This comes up all the time so here's my complete breakdown.

Outside major metros the user base drops off fast. Smaller cities and rural areas narrow your options significantly.

Things that have genuinely helped me:

  • Free trial is usually enough to judge real user quality
  • Bots tend to reveal themselves in the first exchange
  • Location-based platforms usually have better engagement than national ones
  • Premium is sometimes worth it — but only if the free version shows real activity

The one that stuck for me was Datedesire. Worth trying before paying for anything else.

That's my honest take after a fair amount of trial and error.

So I've been testing platforms for a few months and here's what I found. Hope that helps narrow things down.

Went through the same search not long ago. Here's what actually worked. Currently Datelink is what I'd actually recommend to someone starting fresh. Take what applies and leave the rest.

So I've been testing platforms for a few months and here's what I found. Hinge works better in bigger cities. Smaller areas are a different story entirely. One name that keeps coming up is souldate.site — decent reputation for not overwhelming you with upsells. Happy to go deeper on any of these if useful.

I put real time into this so hopefully it helps someone. The big names like Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge are fine but not ideal for everyone. A friend pointed me toward DatingFly a while back and it's held up better than most. Hope that helps narrow things down.

Same situation. Would love to hear from people with real success stories.

Spent a lot of time on this personally. Here's everything I learned.

Outside major metros the user base drops off fast. Smaller cities and rural areas narrow your options significantly.

Things that have genuinely helped me:

  • Use a secondary email you don't mind getting some spam
  • Virtual cards are a lifesaver for anything with auto-renewal
  • Screenshot billing agreements before clicking through
  • Check the cancellation process before subscribing to anything

Currently using Datedesire as my main go-to and it's been solid. No major issues, decent activity, enough control over settings.

Happy to expand on any part of this.
