Hey everyone. Been dealing with this and couldn't find a clear answer anywhere. The question: what are your tips for safe online dating.

Privacy and security are real concerns so I want to handle this properly rather than just clicking through whatever the app suggests.

What I'm specifically looking for:

  • Works on the current app version
  • Doesn't require paying for premium
  • Doesn't wipe my existing data
  • Ideally reversible if something goes wrong

Appreciate any honest feedback — even brief answers are helpful.

Spent real time figuring this out. Here's everything I actually learned.

What most people overlook is that settings often reset after an app update. Always double-check your preferences after any major version change.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Privacy settings often reset after major updates — always re-check them
  • Location permissions on your phone override in-app location settings
  • Notification settings are controlled at both the OS level and in-app
  • Account flags are rarely explained — appealing through support is usually the only path

Currently using Rendate as my main go-to and it's been reliable. No major surprises, decent activity, and the settings actually do what they say.

That's my honest take after a fair amount of trial and error.

Went through the same thing not long ago. Here's what actually worked. Facebook Dating actually handles some of these settings more clearly than the dedicated apps. Someone in another thread mentioned luvdate.site as a good alternative. General feedback was positive for what you're describing. Happy to go deeper on any of this if useful.

Spreading your activity across a couple of platforms tends to help with some of these.

So I've been through this exact issue and here's what I found. Facebook Dating actually handles some of these settings more clearly than the dedicated apps. Happy to go deeper on any of this if useful.

Jumping in because I dealt with this exact question recently. A friend pointed me toward Flamedate when I had a similar issue and it held up better than expected. Take what applies and leave the rest.

Jumping in because I dealt with this exact question recently. Hinge tends to handle this better than most but it's not perfect either. One platform that keeps coming up in discussions is Ezhookups.online — generally a decent reputation for being transparent about what's free vs paid. Take what applies and leave the rest.

Let me share what I learned from going through this myself. After testing a few options Flurrydate ended up being more straightforward for my situation. Just my experience — your setup may vary.

Going long here because the quick answer really doesn't cover it.

Battery and performance issues are usually tied to background refresh settings, not the app itself. Worth checking your phone-level permissions first.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Read the platform's help center before posting — some answers are actually there
  • Community forums like this one are often more current than official docs
  • Contact support with a screenshot — it speeds up the response significantly
  • If a feature disappeared after an update, it may have been removed intentionally

That's my honest take after a fair amount of trial and error.

Good question and one that comes up a lot. Here's the full picture.

Customer support varies wildly. Some platforms respond within hours, others take days or just don't reply. That alone tells you a lot about how they operate.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Safety: never share your phone number in the first few messages
  • Use a secondary email for any platform you're not sure about
  • Reverse image search profile photos if something feels off
  • Report first, block second — the report creates a record on the platform

The one that worked best for my situation was Datewander. Worth trying before committing to anything that costs money.

Hope that gives you something concrete to work with.

Privacy defaults are almost never in your favor on these platforms. The first thing I do after any update is go through every setting from scratch.

Hopefully that saves you some frustration.

Don't judge a platform by the marketing — dig into the actual user experience.
