Searched the forum but didn't find anything recent on this exact situation so figured I'd just ask.

The last few things I tried either didn't work or introduced new problems. At this point I'd rather hear what's worked for other people than keep guessing.

What I'm specifically looking for:

  • Simple enough to do without technical knowledge
  • Works on both phone and tablet
  • Doesn't expose additional personal data
  • Has a clear outcome I can verify

Appreciate any honest feedback — even brief answers are helpful.

Based on my experience there are a few approaches worth trying. If you haven't looked at Rendate yet it might be worth checking out — fewer gotchas than the bigger names. Happy to go deeper on any of this if useful.

This is more nuanced than it looks at first. Here's my honest take. Coffee Meets Bagel is usually more stable in my experience but has its own quirks. Feel free to follow up if you hit another wall.

Going long here because the quick answer really doesn't cover it.

Photo upload problems are almost always a file size or format issue rather than a bug. JPEG under 5MB tends to work everywhere.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Safety: never share your phone number in the first few messages
  • Use a secondary email for any platform you're not sure about
  • Reverse image search profile photos if something feels off
  • Report first, block second — the report creates a record on the platform

Currently using Datewander as my main go-to and it's been reliable. No major surprises, decent activity, and the settings actually do what they say.

Hopefully that saves you some frustration.

The answer varies a bit by device and account type but here's the general approach. Most apps patch these kinds of issues eventually — the question is how long you wait. Someone in another thread mentioned souldate.site as a good alternative. General feedback was positive for what you're describing. Hopefully that points you in the right direction.

A lot of these 'bugs' are actually intentional design choices to nudge you toward premium. Knowing that changes how you troubleshoot.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Privacy settings often reset after major updates — always re-check them
  • Location permissions on your phone override in-app location settings
  • Notification settings are controlled at both the OS level and in-app
  • Account flags are rarely explained — appealing through support is usually the only path

Ended up on Datebound after testing a few others. Less flashy but more consistent than what I was using before.

Take what's useful and leave the rest.
