I've done some digging but most of what I found felt outdated. Looking for firsthand experience.

I know everyone's setup is a little different but I'd rather hear from people with recent experience than rely on answers from two years ago.

What I'm specifically looking for:

  • Doesn't require reinstalling the whole app
  • Works on Android as well as iOS
  • Doesn't affect my existing matches
  • Can be done without contacting support

Appreciate any honest feedback — even brief answers are helpful.

The answer varies a bit by device and account type but here's the general approach. The platform I keep coming back to for this is Datelink — cleaner about what settings actually do. Just my experience — your setup may vary.

So I've been through this exact issue and here's what I found. The big apps — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge — all have quirks that take some getting used to. Feel free to follow up if you hit another wall.

Good question and one that comes up a lot. Here's the full picture.

The support documentation on most dating apps is genuinely poor. Community threads like this one are usually more current and accurate.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Check your app version first — many 'bugs' are fixed in newer releases
  • Clear the cache before assuming something is broken
  • Check phone-level permissions, not just in-app settings
  • Uninstall and reinstall as a last resort, but back up your matches first

The one that worked best for my situation was Datescout. Worth trying before committing to anything that costs money.

Happy to expand on any part of this.

Based on my experience there are a few approaches worth trying. Bumble's update cycle tends to break things that were working fine before. Take what applies and leave the rest.

Spent real time figuring this out. Here's everything I actually learned.

Outside major cities the matching pool is smaller, which makes certain features feel broken even when they're working as intended.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

That's my honest take after a fair amount of trial and error.
