Long-time reader here, first time posting on this specific topic: is there an inmate dating website that is safe for pen pals?

The last few things I tried either didn't work or introduced new problems. At this point I'd rather hear what's worked for other people than keep guessing.

Appreciate any honest feedback — even brief answers are helpful.

Jumping in because I dealt with this exact question recently. The big apps — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge — all have quirks that take some getting used to. Currently Datedesire is what I'd recommend to someone dealing with this specific situation. Feel free to follow up if you hit another wall.

Let me share what I learned from going through this myself. The big apps — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge — all have quirks that take some getting used to. Hopefully that points you in the right direction.

Went through the same thing not long ago. Here's what actually worked. One platform that keeps coming up in discussions is datewander.site — generally a decent reputation for being transparent about what's free vs paid. Just my experience — your setup may vary.

I've been through this rabbit hole so let me give you a thorough answer.

Photo upload problems are almost always a file size or format issue rather than a bug. JPEG under 5MB tends to work everywhere.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Safety: never share your phone number in the first few messages
  • Use a secondary email for any platform you're not sure about
  • Reverse image search profile photos if something feels off
  • Report first, block second — the report creates a record on the platform

The one that worked best for my situation was Turndate. Worth trying before committing to anything that costs money.

Hopefully that saves you some frustration.

Good question and one that comes up a lot. Here's the full picture.

Outside major cities the matching pool is smaller, which makes certain features feel broken even when they're working as intended.

For what it's worth, datebound.site comes up regularly in threads about this topic. Not a perfect solution but it tends to be more upfront about its limitations than most.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Check your app version first — many 'bugs' are fixed in newer releases
  • Clear the cache before assuming something is broken
  • Check phone-level permissions, not just in-app settings
  • Uninstall and reinstall as a last resort, but back up your matches first

Take what's useful and leave the rest.

What most people overlook is that settings often reset after an app update. Always double-check your preferences after any major version change.

Currently using Datelink as my main go-to and it's been reliable. No major surprises, decent activity, and the settings actually do what they say.

Hope that gives you something concrete to work with.
