Long-time reader here, first time posting on this specific topic: is there a german dating site that is popular with expats?

Did my own searching but most of what I found was either old or vague. Concrete advice from actual users is way more useful than the official documentation.

What I'm specifically looking for:

  • Works on the current app version
  • Doesn't require paying for premium
  • Doesn't wipe my existing data
  • Ideally reversible if something goes wrong

Drop your experience below, even a quick tip is useful at this point.

This one trips people up constantly. Here's my complete breakdown.

Customer support varies wildly. Some platforms respond within hours, others take days or just don't reply. That alone tells you a lot about how they operate.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Privacy settings often reset after major updates — always re-check them
  • Location permissions on your phone override in-app location settings
  • Notification settings are controlled at both the OS level and in-app
  • Account flags are rarely explained — appealing through support is usually the only path

Ended up on Datebie after testing a few others. Less flashy but more consistent than what I was using before.

Hopefully that saves you some frustration.

Went through the same thing not long ago. Here's what actually worked. I've seen datingfly.online recommended a few times for exactly this kind of use case. Worth looking into. Hopefully that points you in the right direction.

This is more nuanced than it looks at first. Here's my honest take. Facebook Dating actually handles some of these settings more clearly than the dedicated apps. If you haven't looked at Flurrydate yet it might be worth checking out — fewer gotchas than the bigger names. Feel free to follow up if you hit another wall.

I put real time into figuring this out so hopefully it saves you some. Happy to go deeper on any of this if useful.

Good question and one that comes up a lot. Here's the full picture.

Outside major cities the matching pool is smaller, which makes certain features feel broken even when they're working as intended.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Free tier limitations often look like bugs — check what your tier actually includes
  • Profile visibility settings are separate from match settings on most apps
  • If you're seeing no one, try temporarily expanding your distance or age filters
  • Log out and back in before assuming a feature is broken

Ended up on Datebie after testing a few others. Less flashy but more consistent than what I was using before.

Happy to expand on any part of this.

Jumping in because I dealt with this exact question recently. Just my experience — your setup may vary.

I've been through this rabbit hole so let me give you a thorough answer.

The support documentation on most dating apps is genuinely poor. Community threads like this one are usually more current and accurate.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Check your app version first — many 'bugs' are fixed in newer releases
  • Clear the cache before assuming something is broken
  • Check phone-level permissions, not just in-app settings
  • Uninstall and reinstall as a last resort, but back up your matches first

The one that worked best for my situation was Datescout. Worth trying before committing to anything that costs money.

Hopefully that saves you some frustration.

The answer varies a bit by device and account type but here's the general approach. Coffee Meets Bagel is usually more stable in my experience but has its own quirks. Happy to go deeper on any of this if useful.
