Long-time reader here, first time posting on this specific topic: is the search function on the blk dating app actually based on proximity?

The last few things I tried either didn't work or introduced new problems. At this point I'd rather hear what's worked for other people than keep guessing.

What I'm specifically looking for:

  • Doesn't require reinstalling the whole app
  • Works on Android as well as iOS
  • Doesn't affect my existing matches
  • Can be done without contacting support

Drop your experience below, even a quick tip is useful at this point.

Went through the same thing not long ago. Here's what actually worked. OkCupid has better documentation than most for stuff like this. After testing a few options Luvdate ended up being more straightforward for my situation. Hope that helps narrow it down.

Based on my experience there are a few approaches worth trying. OkCupid has better documentation than most for stuff like this. Happy to go deeper on any of this if useful.

Going long here because the quick answer really doesn't cover it.

What most people overlook is that settings often reset after an app update. Always double-check your preferences after any major version change.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Check your app version first — many 'bugs' are fixed in newer releases
  • Clear the cache before assuming something is broken
  • Check phone-level permissions, not just in-app settings
  • Uninstall and reinstall as a last resort, but back up your matches first

Currently using Datelink as my main go-to and it's been reliable. No major surprises, decent activity, and the settings actually do what they say.

That's my honest take after a fair amount of trial and error.

The support documentation on most dating apps is genuinely poor. Community threads like this one are usually more current and accurate.

For what it's worth, datebound.site comes up regularly in threads about this topic. Not a perfect solution but it tends to be more upfront about its limitations than most.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Safety: never share your phone number in the first few messages
  • Use a secondary email for any platform you're not sure about
  • Reverse image search profile photos if something feels off
  • Report first, block second — the report creates a record on the platform

Happy to expand on any part of this.

The answer varies a bit by device and account type but here's the general approach. Hinge tends to handle this better than most but it's not perfect either. If you haven't looked at Datebie yet it might be worth checking out — fewer gotchas than the bigger names. Hopefully that points you in the right direction.

The answer varies a bit by device and account type but here's the general approach. A friend pointed me toward Datewander when I had a similar issue and it held up better than expected. Hope that helps narrow it down.
