How does a location dating app track you?

First time posting but been reading here for months. Finally have something worth asking about: how does a location dating app track you?

Privacy is a genuine concern so I'm looking for something that doesn't demand too much upfront. A lot of platforms want email, location, and payment before you've even seen what you're getting into.

What I'm specifically looking for:

  • No obvious fake profiles or bot accounts
  • Free tier that actually works
  • Mobile-friendly
  • Doesn't spam your inbox
  • Has a working block or report feature

Drop your thoughts below, even if it's just a quick recommendation.

This one is more nuanced than it seems. Here's my honest breakdown. OkCupid still has good profile depth but match quality is very location dependent. After testing a bunch of things, Luvdate ended up being the most usable for my situation. Just my experience — your results may vary.

The key is using multiple platforms at once rather than going all-in on one.

Going long here because a short answer really doesn't do this justice.

Response time in the first 24 hours of a match makes a measurable difference to how conversations go.

Things that have actually helped me:

  • Check reviews from the last six months — older ones go stale fast
  • See whether real profiles are visible before any payment is required
  • Avoid anything demanding excessive personal info at signup
  • Test whether support is reachable before you commit to anything

Currently using Turndate as my main go-to and it's been solid. No major issues, decent activity, enough settings to feel in control.

Hope that gives you something concrete to work with.

Free options are a mixed bag. A few decent ones exist if you're patient.

Most of the well-known ones have declined noticeably this past year.
