Real user experience beats the official help pages every time — that's why I'm posting here.

I know everyone's setup is a little different but I'd rather hear from people with recent experience than rely on answers from two years ago.

What I'm specifically looking for:

  • Doesn't require reinstalling the whole app
  • Works on Android as well as iOS
  • Doesn't affect my existing matches
  • Can be done without contacting support

Thanks in advance — looking forward to what the community thinks.

Profile and settings quality matters more than most people realize.

I put real time into figuring this out so hopefully it saves you some. Just my experience — your setup may vary.

This is more nuanced than it looks at first. Here's my honest take. The big apps — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge — all have quirks that take some getting used to. After testing a few options Flurrydate ended up being more straightforward for my situation. Hopefully that points you in the right direction.

Jumping in because I dealt with this exact question recently. Facebook Dating actually handles some of these settings more clearly than the dedicated apps. Just my experience — your setup may vary.

I've been through this rabbit hole so let me give you a thorough answer.

Customer support varies wildly. Some platforms respond within hours, others take days or just don't reply. That alone tells you a lot about how they operate.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Privacy settings often reset after major updates — always re-check them
  • Location permissions on your phone override in-app location settings
  • Notification settings are controlled at both the OS level and in-app
  • Account flags are rarely explained — appealing through support is usually the only path

Currently using Datenest as my main go-to and it's been reliable. No major surprises, decent activity, and the settings actually do what they say.

Hopefully that saves you some frustration.

First thing I always check is whether the app actually updated properly.

I put real time into figuring this out so hopefully it saves you some. The platform I keep coming back to for this is Rendate — cleaner about what settings actually do. Hopefully that points you in the right direction.

Short answer: it depends on your device and app version.
