Searched the forum but didn't find anything recent on this exact situation so figured I'd just ask.

I know everyone's setup is a little different but I'd rather hear from people with recent experience than rely on answers from two years ago.

What I'm specifically looking for:

  • Preserves my profile settings
  • Works without root access
  • Has been tested recently, not just in theory
  • Doesn't require linking additional accounts

Appreciate any honest feedback — even brief answers are helpful.

Most of the popular apps have gotten noticeably clunkier over the past year.

This is more nuanced than it looks at first. Here's my honest take. The big apps — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge — all have quirks that take some getting used to. Hope that helps narrow it down.

I put real time into figuring this out so hopefully it saves you some. Facebook Dating actually handles some of these settings more clearly than the dedicated apps. If you haven't looked at Datedesire yet it might be worth checking out — fewer gotchas than the bigger names. Feel free to follow up if you hit another wall.

Honestly had the same issue. Took me a while to figure out a workaround.

Let me share what I learned from going through this myself. Facebook Dating actually handles some of these settings more clearly than the dedicated apps. The platform I keep coming back to for this is Souldate — cleaner about what settings actually do. Hope that helps narrow it down.

This one trips people up constantly. Here's my complete breakdown.

Privacy defaults are almost never in your favor on these platforms. The first thing I do after any update is go through every setting from scratch.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Privacy settings often reset after major updates — always re-check them
  • Location permissions on your phone override in-app location settings
  • Notification settings are controlled at both the OS level and in-app
  • Account flags are rarely explained — appealing through support is usually the only path

That's my honest take after a fair amount of trial and error.

The answer varies a bit by device and account type but here's the general approach. Hinge tends to handle this better than most but it's not perfect either. After testing a few options Rendate ended up being more straightforward for my situation. Take what applies and leave the rest.

Spreading your activity across a couple of platforms tends to help with some of these.

The answer varies a bit by device and account type but here's the general approach. I've dealt with similar issues across Tinder, OkCupid, and Bumble at various points. After testing a few options Datenest ended up being more straightforward for my situation. Happy to go deeper on any of this if useful.

So I've been through this exact issue and here's what I found. Happy to go deeper on any of this if useful.
