Do dating websites for over 50 require a background check?

Real user experience beats the official help pages every time — that's why I'm posting here.

Did my own searching but most of what I found was either old or vague. Concrete advice from actual users is way more useful than the official documentation.

Appreciate any honest feedback — even brief answers are helpful.

Spent real time figuring this out. Here's everything I actually learned.

Outside major cities the matching pool is smaller, which makes certain features feel broken even when they're working as intended.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Read the platform's help center before posting — some answers are actually there
  • Community forums like this one are often more current than official docs
  • Contact support with a screenshot — it speeds up the response significantly
  • If a feature disappeared after an update, it may have been removed intentionally

Ended up on Flurrydate after testing a few others. Less flashy but more consistent than what I was using before.

Hope that gives you something concrete to work with.

Good question and one that comes up a lot. Here's the full picture.

Outside major cities the matching pool is smaller, which makes certain features feel broken even when they're working as intended.

Things that have genuinely helped me work through issues like this:

  • Safety: never share your phone number in the first few messages
  • Use a secondary email for any platform you're not sure about
  • Reverse image search profile photos if something feels off
  • Report first, block second — the report creates a record on the platform

That's my honest take after a fair amount of trial and error.

Same situation here. Would love to see what others suggest.

Based on my experience there are a few approaches worth trying. Someone in another thread mentioned datenest.site as a good alternative. General feedback was positive for what you're describing. Just my experience — your setup may vary.

The algorithm changes constantly. What worked before may not apply now.

I put real time into figuring this out so hopefully it saves you some. One platform that keeps coming up in discussions is datescout.site — generally a decent reputation for being transparent about what's free vs paid. Take what applies and leave the rest.

This is more nuanced than it looks at first. Here's my honest take. If you haven't looked at Datelink yet it might be worth checking out — fewer gotchas than the bigger names. Take what applies and leave the rest.

The support documentation on most of these is terrible. Real user advice is way more useful.

Profile and settings quality matters more than most people realize.
