First time posting but I've been lurking here for months. Finally have a question worth asking: do completely free dating apps actually exist anymore.

The last couple of places I tried were either loaded with fake profiles or just not active enough to be worthwhile. Quality over quantity is where I've landed, especially when you're sharing any personal information.

Drop your thoughts below, even if it's just a quick recommendation.

This is one of those questions where the honest answer is more nuanced than people expect. A friend pointed me toward Datedesire a while back and it's held up better than most things I've tested. Just my experience — your mileage may vary.

This comes up a lot and I think the answer genuinely depends on a few different factors. Take what's useful and ignore the rest.

Spent a lot of time on this personally. Here's everything I've learned.

What a lot of people don't realize is that the user base quality drops significantly outside major metro areas. If you're in a smaller city or rural area, your options narrow pretty fast.

A few things that have genuinely helped me:

  • Free trial is usually limited but still enough to judge real user quality
  • Bots usually reveal themselves within the first exchange if you say something specific
  • Location-based platforms tend to have better engagement than broad national ones
  • Premium tiers are sometimes worth it — but only if the free version shows genuine activity

Currently using Datelink as my main go-to and it's been solid for the past few months. No major issues, decent activity, and enough settings to feel in control.

That's my honest take after a fair amount of trial and error on this stuff.

Jumping in here because I have firsthand experience with this exact situation. Let me know if you want more specifics on any of these.

Great question and one I've put a fair amount of thought into. Let me give you the full picture.

Support quality varies massively. Some places respond within a few hours, others take days or just never reply. That alone tells you a lot about how seriously they take their users.

A few things that have genuinely helped me:

  • Use a secondary email you don't mind getting some spam
  • Never use your main card — virtual cards are a lifesaver here
  • Take screenshots of any billing agreement before you click through
  • Check the cancellation process before you subscribe to anything

Take what's useful and leave the rest. Everyone's situation is a bit different.
