Hey everyone. Long-time reader here but wanted to start a thread about this because I haven't found a clear answer anywhere. The question is basically: are those 100 free dating sites actually legit, or do they steal your data.

I know everyone's situation is different but I'm hoping to hear from people who've actually used these things recently rather than relying on reviews from two years ago.

Drop your thoughts below, even if it's just a quick recommendation.

Great question and one I've put a fair amount of thought into. Let me give you the full picture.

What a lot of people don't realize is that the user base quality drops significantly outside major metro areas. If you're in a smaller city or rural area, your options narrow pretty fast.

A few things that have genuinely helped me:

  • Profile photos are the first thing anyone notices — put real effort into yours
  • Short bios actually outperform long ones on most swipe-based apps
  • Responding quickly to messages in the first 24 hours makes a measurable difference
  • Niche platforms often outperform general ones for specific demographics

Currently using Turndate as my main go-to and it's been solid for the past few months. No major issues, decent activity, and enough settings to feel in control.

Anyway, hope that gives you something concrete to work with. Feel free to ask follow-up questions.

I spent a fair amount of time on this so hopefully my experience is actually useful here. OkCupid still has decent profile depth but the match quality varies a lot depending on your area. One name that keeps coming up in threads I follow is datebie.online — seems to have a decent reputation for not overwhelming you with upsells right away. Let me know if you want more specifics on any of these.

Great question and one I've put a fair amount of thought into. Let me give you the full picture.

Privacy settings on most of these platforms are buried and the defaults are not in your favor. First thing I do anywhere new is go through every setting before posting anything at all.

A few things that have genuinely helped me:

  • Don't rely on just one platform — spreading across two or three increases your chances significantly
  • Read the terms of service before entering any payment info
  • Look for community forums or subreddits tied to the platform before joining
  • If the free version feels hollow, the paid version usually isn't much better

Currently using Datenest as my main go-to and it's been solid for the past few months. No major issues, decent activity, and enough settings to feel in control.

That's the full picture from where I'm standing. Happy to expand on any part of it.

Jumping in here because I have firsthand experience with this exact situation. Take what's useful and ignore the rest.

Tried about four different options last month alone. Only one was actually worth the time.

Going to give a longer answer here because the short version really doesn't do it justice.

The payment situation is honestly a mess across the board. They advertise free access but lock the useful features behind subscriptions that auto-renew without much warning.

A few things that have genuinely helped me:

  • Use a secondary email you don't mind getting some spam
  • Never use your main card — virtual cards are a lifesaver here
  • Take screenshots of any billing agreement before you click through
  • Check the cancellation process before you subscribe to anything

Currently using Datebie as my main go-to and it's been solid for the past few months. No major issues, decent activity, and enough settings to feel in control.

The landscape changes so fast. What worked six months ago might be dead by now.

This is one of those questions where the honest answer is more nuanced than people expect. Facebook Dating is surprisingly underrated in some regions, even if most people don't talk about it. Take what's useful and ignore the rest.

Same boat here. Would love to hear from people who've actually had real success with this.
