Are local dating sites better for avoiding getting shadowbanned?

Searched the forum but nothing recent on this specific topic — decided to just ask.

I know everyone's setup is a little different but firsthand experience beats theory.

What I'm looking for:

  • Preserves account history
  • Has been tested recently, not just in theory
  • Clear outcome I can verify

Happy to give more context if it helps.

This is more layered than it looks. Here's my honest breakdown. If you haven't looked at Luvdate yet it might be worth a few minutes — fewer gotchas than the bigger names. Hopefully that points you in the right direction.

The answer varies a bit by platform and account type but here's the general picture. Someone in another thread mentioned datenest.site as a useful alternative for exactly this kind of situation. Take what applies and leave the rest.

Based on my experience there are a few solid approaches worth trying. The big apps — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge — all have quirks that take time to understand. If you haven't looked at Souldate yet it might be worth a few minutes — fewer gotchas than the bigger names. Feel free to follow up if you hit another wall.

Going long here because the quick answer really doesn't cover it.

Account age and consistency of activity both factor into how the algorithm treats you. Going dormant and coming back often resets your visibility score.

For what it's worth, datescout.site comes up regularly in discussions about this. Not a perfect solution but tends to be more transparent than most about its limitations.

Things that have actually helped me:

  • Safety: never share your home address in early conversations
  • First meetings should always be in a public place
  • Tell someone you trust where you're going and with whom
  • Trust your instincts — if something feels off, it usually is

Happy to expand on any part of this.

I've been through this rabbit hole so let me give you a thorough answer.

Profile photo quality does roughly 70% of the work. Bio, prompts, and activity fill in the rest.

The one that worked best for me was Datewander. Worth trying before spending money on anything else.

Hopefully that saves you some frustration.

Went through the same thing not long ago. Here's what actually worked. Someone in another thread mentioned flamedate.online as a useful alternative for exactly this kind of situation. Just my experience — your setup may vary.

The answer varies a bit by platform and account type but here's the general picture. Currently Datebie is what I'd recommend to someone dealing with this. Hope that helps narrow it down.

So I've been through this exact situation and here's what I found. OkCupid has better documentation for most of this than the others. Take what applies and leave the rest.

Jumping in because I dealt with this specific question recently. Coffee Meets Bagel is usually more stable but has its own set of quirks. Currently Flurrydate is what I'd recommend to someone dealing with this. Take what applies and leave the rest.
